The South African Association for Food Science and Technology (SAAFoST) is inviting interested students to apply for postgraduate (Btech, Masters or Doctoral) bursaries in the field of Food Science and Technology. SAAFoST is offering 20 bursaries for postgraduate study at South African Tertiary Institutions, awarded on the basis of academic merit and demonstrated potential.
Bursary Eligibility Criteria:
The selection of candidates is based on the following criteria:
Preference will be given to students who excel academically and / or demonstrate potential.
Applicants must be enrolled for full-time postgraduate study in the field of Food Science and Technology at a South African Tertiary Institution. (Full-time students are defined as students who are not receiving remuneration from an employer and who are not working more than 12 hours per week).
Applicants must be South African citizens who have been resident in South Africa for at least 3 years prior to application.
Applicants will be required to submit a recommendation that speaks of the applicant's character and ability to complete a postgraduate degree. The recommendation letter will be written by someone who has known the applicant in a learning capacity for at least 2 years.
Applications will be reviewed by a SAAFoST adjudication panel, whose decision is final and binding.
Bursary Package:
The bursary includes financial assistance for the following:
An amount of R25 000 (in two equal instalments) towards tuition fees.
Bursary Conditions:
The student will be required to sign a contract as acceptance and agreement to the conditions outlined below:
Granting of bursaries is not automatic and SAAFoST reserves the right not to award a bursary.
Bursaries are awarded annually and are thus not automatically renewed.
Only students who apply within the specified date and have completed the required application forms will be considered.
Applicants will be registered as Members of SAAFoST within the first three months of registration at the tertiary institution of choice and must become and remain active members of SAAFoST for the duration of study.
The student will be required to provide SAAFoST with a SIX MONTHLY REPORT and exam results outlining the academic progress to date. NO REPORT = NO SECOND PAYMENT
The bursary will be converted into a loan repayable in equal instalments at the prime rate of interest as determined by SAAFoST if:
The student terminates his / her studies, without formal permission for the interruption of studies;
The student does not complete his / her studies within the period specified by the department where he / she is studying;
The student fails any year of study and cannot continue;

Application Administration:
