SAAFoST one-day workshops at the ARC-Irene, Pretoria, on 6 May and at the CPUT, Bellville in Cape Town, on 2 June 2011

Dear SAAFoST Members,

Dates have been set for your long awaited, follow-up workshops on the labelling and advertising of foods. The identical workshops will be taking place in two branch centres to facilitate your participation. Carefully follow the guidelines below to ensure your registration on the right day and at the right place - Irene Burke will be in charge of bookings for both branches in order to assist in this regard. Details of the very interesting and comprehensive programme follow for your perusal and beneath that, you will find the registration guidelines and directions to the Pretoria venue at the ARC-Irene and also directions to the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT). All directions will also be placed on the website in due course. If you have troubling questions or insightful comments or observations relating to these regulations that you would like to be brought to the attention of the presenters, kindly forward them to Irene together with your registration details.

  • Who does the Consumer Protection Act apply to and what transactions are covered;
  • Labelling and the Consumer Protection Act (in addition to R146);
  • The consumer's right to truthful information about products;
  • The consumer's right to good quality, safe products;
  • No-fault liability of manufacturer, importer, distributor, and retailer for harm caused by products; and
  • The importance of product recalls in South Africa.

From the OR Tambo International airport - take the R21 to Pretoria.
Pass the Olifantsfontein off ramp, then take the M31 to Irene.
Exit left and turn left towards Irene at the top of the off-ramp.
Pass the Cornwall Hill School on the left and continue to subway.
Pass under subway to the 4-way stop in Irene.
Turn left at the four-way stop into Olifantsfontein Rd.
Proceed about 3,5 km looking out for the ARC sign on the right.
Turn right at the ARC sign and proceed to the main gate directly ahead.
From the main gate, proceed to the three way stop and turn left.
Turn left again after a short stretch, passing a brown brick building on your right.
Continue toward the blue and white Dairy Industry Centre building ahead.
Move to the left of this building, driving around it and find parking on the lawn.
Head for the entrance to the Dairy Building and the Bonsma Auditorium on your right.
The Bonsma entrance is on the right before entering the Dairy building.

From Johannesburg - take the M1 to Pretoria.
Exit onto the N1 to Pietersburg/Polokwane.
Take the second exit which is Botha Avenue.
Turn right at the robots and follow the road heading south into Irene.
Cross over the four-way stop in town and continue going south.
After about 3,5 km, look out for the ARC sign on the right.
Turn right at the ARC sign and proceed to the main gate directly ahead.
From the main gate, proceed to the three way stop and turn left.

Take N1 to Paarl
Take the Durban Road off ramp (Tygervalley) - Route 302
Turn Right towards Bellville
At Robot in Voortrekker Road (SARS on left) - Turn left (towards Kuilsriver)
At the 2nd Robot (Eskom on right, Road sign - Modderdam Road & CT International), turn Right into Modderdam Road.
Drive down Modderdam Road and the 7th Robot (from Voortrekker) is our Entrance to the left.

From Cape Town on N2
Take the N2 to Somerset West.
Take the Modderdam Road (Bellville) off ramp to the left.
Drive straight down Modderdam Road until you pass University of the W. Cape
At the Robot (pass Univ. of the W.Cape) Turn Right into Symphony Way - to Belhar.
The First Robot (pass Steelpark) is our Entrance to the left.
