SAAFoST Northern Branch Lecture
Fuel Versus Food - The Alternative
Presenter: Jannie van Aswegen
While the controversial food for fuel debate has been raging, advances in biotechnology have been exploring the
possibility of using waste cellulose material, instead of food crops, to produce what is known as second generation
biofuels. Jannie van Aswegen, who has been in the enzyme business for over thirty years, will discuss these
developments and what impact they might have on prices and on the food resources of the world.
Jannie is a past SAAFoST Council and Northern Branch Committee Member.
