SAAFoST Executive Breakfast Lecture

Forces for change in the South African food industry
Speaker: Dr Andre de Villiers

Emeritus Professor Andre de Villiers graduated with a BSc Chemistry degree from the University of Pretoria in 1964 and started his working life in the Dept of Agriculture and then the Oilseeds Control Board. After joining Information and Research Services at the CSIR in 1970 and obtaining his MBA, he was appointed Head of the Techno Economics Division at the National Food Research Institute (NFRI) where, in 1983, he completed his DBA on the "Research Needs of the Food Industry in South Africa". In 1986 he joined the University of Pretoria as an Associate Professor lecturing in Strategic Management and Marketing and responsible for the BCom Honours Programme. After an early retirement in 2001, Andre worked as a consultant, became involved with SMME development and lectured at the UNISA School for Business Leadership where he still leads Masters and Doctoral students. He has been a SAAFoST Member since 1975 and a Member of the SA Institute of Management since its inception in 1988..

In 2010, Andre published, "Tincture", a book on his and his co-author's analysis of the present state of the nation. In his presentation, he will briefly explain the current paradigms and the state of the different sub-systems in the country. From this, a holistic view of "the main rules of the game" that will affect the Food Industry in the future, will be developed. No quick fixes will be suggested!
