SAAFoST Northern Branch Lecture

SACNASP on the Move

It is quite widely known that in order to practise in a consultancy capacity in the food science field of practice, it is necessary to register as a Professional Natural Food Scientist. However, despite affecting every other food scientist and technologist active in this field of practice in SA, it is less well known and appreciated that, in terms of section 18 of the SACNASP Act of 2003, all have to be registered, in one category or another, with SACNASP! Food science professionals also need to be aware of the growing requirement for their Continuing Professional Development, trial roll-outs of which have already started for certain professions. This meeting is the ideal opportunity for food science and technology professionals to catch up on developments that are going to affect them in a very few years from now.

Speaker: Dr Rolf W Becker Pr. Sci. Nat.

Executive Director: South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions

Dr Rolf Werner Becker is the Executive Director of the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions (SACNASP), a position he has held since April 2011. At this university, Rolf served as Director of the School of Molecular and Life Sciences and also held tenure as Professor of Biochemistry. He is well established in academia and has served on a number of national and international bodies. His current research interests are focussed on the genus Euphorbia and the effect of lithium on complex biological systems.
