International Year of Pulses 2016

Wednesday 7 December 2016

Dear Members,

It would not be proper to end the year 2016 without celebrating the ,"The International Year of Pulses". This year was designated as such by the 68th UN General Assembly to promote public awareness of the benefits of pulses with regard to sustainable farming, food security and sound nutrition.

So, speaker Dean Miller, Group Marketing Manager at AGT Foods Africa will tell us all about it and how successful it has been and will give away, to every attending member and guest, a free recipe booklet that he himself helped to produce. Thanks also to AGT for sponsoring the event. The 3M Executive Chef, Shaun Fourie of Royal Mnandi, has very kindly agreed to prepare a variety of dishes of peas, beans, lentils and chickpeas to demonstrate their, taste, appeal and versatility.

Here's a challenge for new product daredevils - bring along samples of shelf-stable snacks that you have developed from any one of the pulses and see if you can impress your peers and make a personal contribution towards the lasting success of the International Year of the Pulses. Otherwise, bring along for discussion, display or sampling, any pulse products that you have come across that will add to our knowledge and enjoyment of these nutrient laden legumes.

It's thirty days to Christmas but you have only ten days before booking closes!
Regards,

OJF
