SAAFoST Mini Seminar

Risk Assessment, Monitoring and Surveillance

Dear Food Safety Colleagues in the Public Sector,

You are cordially invited to attend a free mini-seminar on Food and Feed Risk Assessment, Monitoring and Surveillance being held at the ARC-Irene on Wednesday 16 March. The event will be led by Dr Herman KoŽter, a well-known international toxicologist and former Scientific Director and Deputy Executive Director, of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA). He will be assisted by Linda Jackson of the Food Safety Network. Items to be covered during the seminar will include the following:

  • Risk analysis
  • The process of setting food standards (Codex Alimentarius)
  • Food security concerns
  • Chemical contamination of food
  • Microbiological risk assessment
  • Q & A and general discussion

Attendance of this workshop will be free of charge to those in the public sector who have received this letter directly from the writer or free of charge for any colleagues that these recipients may appoint or invite. It is essential to reserve a place because space is limited and only those whose names appear on the reservation register will be given access to the campus and the auditorium. Public sector colleagues receiving this note have until Friday 11 to book, after which the notice will be more widely circulated. Booking opens on Monday morning via this notice, no contact before this must be regarded as reservation of a place at the mini symposium.

Anyone who makes a reservation and fails to arrive on the day will unfortunately have to be invoiced for lunch, tea and an administration fee (R200). Cancellations must please be made by Monday14 March at the latest. If you can't make it at the last moment, please send a deserving colleague in your place. The registration procedure and details follow below.

Many thanks to the ARC-Irene for providing the Bonsma Auditorium, to the FoodBev-SETA for sponsorship of the lunches, to the Orange House Partnership for making Dr Koeter available and to Linda Jackson of the Food Safety Network for making time available to participate in the programme.

I hope that you will all be able to make use of this extraordinary opportunity to brush up your knowledge of the very structured process of risk analysis. It has become the main methodology applied across the food chain to improve food control systems for safer food and for promoting international trade. I look forward to meeting you at the mini-seminar.

With best wishes and kind regards,

OJF
