REMINDER - just this working week left to respond, competition closes on Friday 25 May at midnight.

Dear Members,

Support the 27th SAAFoST Meritorious Award for Journalism and stand to win some prize money.
All you need do is nominate your favourite, most objective and factually correct article or programme, printed or broadcast during the course of 2017, that deals with food safety, food additives or food processing and which, you feel, contributes towards a better consumer knowledge or understanding of these issues.

A R1,000-00 finder's fee is available to the talented SAAFoST Member who nominates the winning printed article.
Ditto for the nominator of the best programme broadcast on radio or TV in 2017.
The author of the winning article, hopefully a SAAFoST Member, and the presenter of the winning programme, will each receive a certificate and a cash prize of R6,000!
For full particulars, a nomination form and a list of previous winners click here: http://www.saafost.org.za/Awards/MeritoriousJournalism/MeritoriousJournalism.asp The closing date for nominations is 25 May 2018.

Luckily, 2017 was a busy media year, full of crises and controversies, so lots of interesting material is available - it was the year of the listeriosis outbreak, salt reduction, sugar tax, avian flu, the appointment of inspection, "Assignees" by DAFF, legislation and regulations, labelling, best-before and expiry dates, chicken brining, GMO's, food security, gluten free and Banting diets, obesity, non-communicable diseases and many more recurring issues.

The Meritorious Awards for Journalism were established to recognise any local author or presenter whose work contributes towards improving the consumer's understanding of topical and contentious food issues, so, by finding and nominating the best articles and programmes of 2017, SAAFoST Members play an important role in influencing the positive outcome of the competition and recognising and rewarding high standards of reporting.

If you have queries or comments, please contact me. I look forward with great interest to receiving loads of fine nominations!
Don't forget to be on the lookout for the best work printed and broadcast in 2018 for next year's competition.

Good luck.
With thanks & best wishes,

OJF
