Congratulations to Prof. Gunnar Sigge for an appointment to the IFT Board of Directors.

SAAFoST is proud to announce the appointment of Prof. Gunnar Sigge to the IFT Board of Directors. Prof. Sigge is an inspiration and an international ambassador of the Food Science and Technology profession. We are proud of his great achievements and grateful for his dedication over the years.

Gunnar Sigge is currently Associate-Professor and Head of the Department of Food Science, Stellenbosch University, South Africa - a position he has held since 2009. He completed his BSc, MSc and PhD at Stellenbosch, and has been working full-time within the Department in an academic capacity since 2003.

Gunnar has been actively involved with the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT). While he was SAAFoST's President, the SAAFoST Foundation was established - which now annually supports more than 25 students with bursaries. SAAFoST also launched its magazine - South African Food Science and Technology (FST) during his presidency, which has a publishing agreement with IFT's Food Technology magazine.

He has served on the organising and scientific committees of several local and international conferences (including chairing the Scientific Programme Committee for the IUFoST 2010 World Congress in Cape Town, South Africa) and, more recently, IFT's Annual Meeting Scientific Programme Advisory Panel - AMSPAP (2016-2020), which he chaired in 2016 and 2018. He was invited to take part in the IFT Strategic Retreats (2012 & 2013) and also served on IFT's Division Champions Team (2017 - 2019). He was also a member of IFT's Inclusive Systems Review Task Team and is currently Chair-elect of IFT's International Division.

Huge congratulations from all of us at SAAFoST!
