The SAAFoST Mailbox - June 2006

Document Actions
It is a pleasure to be able to announce the results of our recently held ballot. Mrs Rosie Maguire is the new SAAFoST President Elect and will become President in September 2007. She will be at the helm during what will be the busiest time in SAAFoST's history  - the countdown to the IUFoST World Congress in Cape Town in August 2010. Good luck Rosie, you have a huge team of Members to support you, one that we hope will have doubled in size by opening day!

Further congratulations go to Prof Lucia Anelich, Vice Chair of the Northern Branch, who has been appointed to the Council of the International Union of Food Science and Technology (IUFoST) for the period 2006 to 2008. She will be assisting in advancing the field of food science and technology on a global basis and will assume her duties just as another local stalwart, Aubrey Parsons, leaves the Council after having served on it for many years. Members of the IUFoST Council are elected as individuals and not as representatives of countries so South Africa is extremely fortunate in having successive representation.

Visit the FACS site (
www.foodfacts.org.za) to view a number of new articles, the latest of which, "Irradiation" was posted this week.
