SAAFoST Listeria Workshop 14 February 2018
Food Focus Listeria Workshop 15 February 2018

Venue: Premier Hotel OR Tambo Airport

South Africa is experiencing a severe listeriosis outbreak, which has resulted in 748 confirmed cases and 67 deaths, as at 12 January 2018, with more cases and deaths expected. Food science professionals and related disciplines therefore need to come together to discuss the facts, examine the evidence and consider the best way forward in addressing the current crisis and preventing a similar outbreak in the future.

To this end, SAAFoST is bringing you a Workshop on Listeriosis to provide a platform for scientific discussions and practical solutions.

Considering that Food Focus also intended running a workshop on listeriosis, it was decided to run the two workshops consecutively, branded separately. Food Focus is therefore holding its workshop at the same venue on 15 February 2018. This is being done to avoid duplications and to make both events as conveniently available as possible to SAAFoST members, all food science professionals, other food industry delegates, academics and all other interested parties countrywide.

SAAFoST will be focusing on scientific aspects including latest research, the pathway of the outbreak, industry member experiences and a panel discussion on the way forward. This Save-the-Date notice will be followed up very shortly with further details regarding registration, speaker programme and sponsorship opportunities.

Note that both events will take place in the same venue which offers airport shuttles from OR Tambo airport for out-of-town delegates. Both events will run from 09:00 to 16:00 on 14 and 15 February 2018.
